WhaTCKAS: That Kid Whose Spinal Cord I Just Cut Was Big Enough to Walk Me To the Bus Stop Edition

I was curious to know what the pro-abortion crowd would have to say about Kermit Gosnell, M.D.’s abortion mill, specifically I was curious how they would not make it about abortion at all. Where I’m stumped, after reading several such pieces that I’ll not be linking here (they’re easy enough to find), is what’s more nauseating: the actual grand jury report detailing the Little Abortion and Script Mill of Horrors Dr. Gosnell operated, or Nazi-like efficiency abortion’s defenders have not only come out and defended the sacred right, but have also insisted that it’s not really about abortion at all! Mighty convenient, no?
In the most effective paragraph from the Right thus far summing up this all animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others shell game the left is now playing with our intellectual genitalia, Ace wrote:
Are you quite sure it’s not about abortion? Because, if’n I have this all right, women sought abortions from an abortion mill and received them from an abortion doctor who performed abortions and is charged with 33 counts of illegal late-term abortions (in addition to other double-secret abortions which have been charged as murder) and the grand jury stated that abortion politics — specifically pro-abortion politics — caused the state medical and health bureaucracy to stop inspecting abortion clinics and not pursue complaints about negligence in conducting abortions because of their fear of how such scrutiny about abortions would play within the pro-abortion community.
What bugs me about this story is that we operate in a society that, for 40 years strong, has tolerated a SCOTUS-backed, myth-based right to privacy that opened the door to unsafe, illegal, obscenely common, casual slaughter of human life, and we have the gall to be shockedshockedshockedshocked that something like this is happening, has happened, and will happen again, that it was ignored by the very State officials who are supposed to prevent such atrocities? In a moral, just society, the people involved in this operation and those who enabled it – the doctor, his staff, those who knew something strange was afoot yet continued to refer women to it, the government officials who all looked the other way – would not be lawyering up, they would be consulting a priest before being hung in town square and left for the beasts to devour.
The American political Left that is whistling past this graveyard is the same Left that has unsuccessfully attempted to link the shooting spree in Arizona perpetrated by a nutjob to [perceived right-wing vitriol, among that vitriol the murder of George Tiller aka the late Kansas abortionist aka “the baby killer.” I popped a magnum of champagne when Tiller was gunned down in cold blood at church. I am most certainly Pro Life, and I’m most certainly in the “pro” column of ending the type of Life that puts food on the table by sucking the brains out of a viable human skull, scraping the human remains out of a woman’s womb or – in the case of Dr. Gosnell, already being martyred by the American Left – the human life that takes a pair of scissors to cut through the neck and spinal cords of eight-known children (disregarding the 33 illegal, late-term abortions, to say nothing of – as the grand jury report indicates – all the other dead children we’ll never know about due to destroyed evidence).
This is Dr. Gosnell.
This is a refrigerator at his clinic, and it’s not packed with pizza pockets and ice-cream sandwiches, just the tasty remains of murdered children. Somewhere in Hell, Dr. Mengele is thinking, “Wow, that is really fucked up.”
I say “tasty,” because what are we to think of people who for the worst kind of nakedly political purposes ignore an obscenity like this but go bananas over a certain politician shooting a caribou on television? What do we think when an abortionist like Dr. Gosnell finally gets uncovered not because he was murdering children under full purview of legal authorities, but because he was running a script-mill during daylight hours?
Here is the deranged logic we’re dealing with, as characterized by Elizabeth Scalia:
Its funny how framing works. A massacre perpetrated by a deranged man is not about the deranged man; it’s about “rhetoric.” But a massacre perpetrated by an abortion provider whose violations against laws of the nation and of humanity were overlooked for years is “not about abortion.” It’s about criminal behavior, and that’s all. But some of our most prominent politicians have voted against the very bill — the “born alive” bill — that defines such behavior as criminal. Meaning, I guess, that if only enough politicians had voted with Sen. Barack Obama, Gosnell’s behavior would not be “criminal” at all, and therefore we wouldn’t even be talking about it?
A common theme among the Choice crowd is that this will be used by the Life crowd, the implication being that this story could cause some political discomfort for Choice politicians. In much the same way that documentary evidence of genocide is used to punish perpetrators of genocide, and in the manner that documentary evidence of torture is used against torturers, then yes, this material will be used. The larger implication, though, is that those of us on the political Right are somehow thrilled to know that, for years, a sadistic doctor has operated an abortion mill under light of day, killing innocent children, as though this information will somehow prove a point.
When we regularly say that the Left is guilty more than anything else of projection, this is what we mean. Since they politicize everything from the food we eat to the cars we drive to the clothes we wear to the manner in which brutally torture a child moments after that child comes into the world, they assume that everyone does this.
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, and murder is not just “criminal activity,” and abortion is not a choice, it is a child and it is murder. The abortion Dr. Gosnell was trafficking could be likened to a pharmacist and the illegal drug trade.
- Heroin is illegal, but many other drugs are not, so pharmacists sell many other drugs as a narrow profit
- Kermit the Pharmacist wants only to make money
- Rather than sell legal drugs through legal channels, Kermit the Pharmacist choose instead to sell heroin
- Kermit makes a fortune
Aside from the confusing part of this – Kermit the Abortionist was, again, running a script-mill as well – this is what the man was doing. It’s in the report. After a set number of weeks (24, as I recall, but I haven’t read the report in two days), abortion is illegal in Pennsylvania. Once a woman’s pregnancy hits that point in PA, it’s risk-reward time at Dr. Gosnell’s clinic, because if you needed a safe, legal and rare abortion that wasn’t safe, legal or rare but was heartily endorsed, covered up and ignored by government officials who were true believers in the abortion cause, then you were sent to Dr. Gosnell.
As I noted the day this story broke, this is not an outlier, it’s not a rarity, it’s not an aberration.
